This book spread is a selection from my upcoming children’s book titled “In a Pickle” which features a cast of literal pickles getting into tricky situations that finds them between a rock and a hard place.

A pickle, if you will.

This particular pickle is set on the moon where our team of pickle astronauts come to find that they have left the key in the ignition of their ride home.
I’ve selected muted colors for both the pickles and moon to give a considerable contrast between the main subjects and the smoke trail to the Earth that loom in the background. This illustrates the dire situation the pickles have found themselves in, a stark unforgiving lunar landscape and the comforting warmth of their ride home fading into the black of space. I have used a set of digital watercolor brushes to give the scene a painterly, organic quality. Highlights are made with a hard pastel brush to create further depth within the piece.

Keep and eye out for more pickles! This book will go to print in 2025.
