Several Christmas’s ago, I was commissioned to draw a personal “pickle” situation for a Secret Santa recipient. A fascination of pickles (which you’ll see displayed throughout my portfolio) has long been the muse for many of my early, and current, sketches. The play on the phrase “in a pickle” and using pickles as the subject of the given situation was an obvious but entertaining leap to make and I continue to follow that path as far as it will take me.
This specific pickle features a couple who enjoys the outdoors and the pacific northwest. Many weekends you can find them hiking, fishing, and camping in the wilderness of Oregon with their lovable corgi in toe. It was requested to feature this passion in the pictured pickle. The colors paint a crisp summer morning as the fish start biting. The warmth of the fire, cuddly pup, and a steaming cup of coffee is a stark contrast to the unfortunate introduction our pickle in the background is having with a rather hungry bear.
